York City have taken a big step to taking back ownership of their Bootham Crescent ground. As reported on their official forum, an agrrement has been reached with the current owners, Bootham Crescent Holdings, to purchase 75% of that company and, thereby, take control of the ground. At the same time, the deal sees a charge (in effect a mortgage) being granted to the Football Stadia Improvement Fund in respect of loans made to ensure that the ground is up to Football League standard.

The York City board also confirmed that they need to move from Bootham Crescent within 10 years and have plans in hand to build a 10,000 seat stadium on a different site in the city for occupation by 2014. We wish them well.
